This past Tuesday, October 8 GCP sponsored an exciting visit from Dr. Stephanie Kayden! Dr. Kayden is the director of the Emergency Medicine Fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. She has taught about emergency medicine and human rights in over 20 countries in Europe, Asia, Africa, and Latin America. She helped build the largest field hospital after the 2012 Haiti Earthquake. Most recently, she provided medical care for survivors of the Japan Earthquake of 2011. She has also worked extensively with survivors of disaster and war in Pakistan and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Dr. Kayden shared a wonderful presentation about myths and misconceptions about disasters and humanitarian aid in the developing world. It was an illuminating presentation that was well received by over 600 students at Hingham High!
